Distribution

There are a few tips and recommendations on distribution worth mentioning.

Distributing hundreds, let alone thousands of copies is too much for one person. Get more people involved in the project. We recommend that you "commission" a number of dictionaries/ booklets to friends, colleagues, family members etc. Anyone can sell ten dictionaries, even kids! Give a number of booklets (10, 50 or 100) to people you know, and ask them to sell them for you, and bring back the money or any unsold copies after some time. Keep a meticulous record of all the copies you commission.

Schools are a primary target. Make an appointment with a school, let them know in advance that you are coming on a certain day, so that the kids can bring money from home. Talk the principal into buying at least a class set (say, 50 copies or so) that can be used to teach English. Convince him/her that the school will need its own copies, because in the future there might not be more dictionaries around, and you can't expect every kid to bring it every single day.

Because margins are small (and we want to keep the small to keep the price down!) we discourage giving people money for selling on commission, that is, making a profit. But to ensure a wider distribution, paying for transport and even other expenses will probably be necessary. Selling 200 dictionaries in a day, with some effort, should be possible with some effort. If you give someone 10%, that amounts to 6.000 Ush ($3) for a days work.
